Because Losing Sucks

I am on the verge of completing my first semester here at Buffalo. We finished 1-9 and this is a tough place to coach and win. In particular there is a culture of losing that has dominated this place for going on 20 years. In year one, I felt like we did a lot of things right. I believe we have laid a foundation for future success. We might have a foundation, but we have not built any walls of as yet to protect what we have done. I am going to start a new series on my blog called, changing a culture from losing culture to a winning culture. I plan to work on it over Christmas Break. If everything goes as planned, I plan to add some video features to my blog as well. The series will focus on the challenges we have here at Buffalo and what we are doing to change the culture here. Some days you feel like you are winning and some days you are reminded just how ingrained the culture really is. Please join me in a coupl...

Colossians Chapter 4:2-6 Speaking to God and Others 2 Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us that God may open a door to us for the message, to speak the mystery of the Messiah, for which I am in prison, 4 so that I may reveal it as I am required to speak. 5 Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. 6 Your speech should always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person. Notice the words I put in bold print. Let us take a look at each one and I pray that we get a take away from this to help us get through the day. Devote yourselves to prayer. I have been trying to pray more. Paul urged us to stay in a state of prayer. I feel at times that my prayer life is ineffective, that I fall short of what God expects. I battle ADHD and I often have my mind wonder on me, so to help ...

Good Morning, I am going to finish the week with one more devotional from Jude. Watch the news and then go read Jude. If he were alive today they probably would not invite him to be a guest on "The View". CNN might label him a radical conservative and accuse him of being intolerant. What he was, was a bold follower of Christ who did not have a filter and called it like it was. I want to meet him when I get to Heaven. Jude 1:16-25 16 These people are discontented grumblers, walking according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage. 17 But you, dear friends, remember what was predicted by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18 they told you, “In the end time there will be scoffers walking according to their own ungodly desires.” 19 These people create divisions and are unbelievers, not having the Spirit. 20 But you, dear friends, as you build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spi...

We live in a jacked up world to say the least. All of the American news agencies see the world through worldly view not a Biblical view. If you are tired of the political correctness and craziness you see on the news. There is a source of news with a Biblical World View. Get your news from CBN and see the world differently. http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/ Have a great day and God Bless, Coach J

January 26, 2015 Promises of God

Surviving in a World Gone Mad I don't know about you, but as a Christian when I watch the news or listen to the media / celebrities, I find myself getting angry. We live in a "politically correct" world where truth is under attack. Too many people get their beliefs from the media / celebrities. I do not really care what Oprah or the ladies on the View believe or think. These people are not Christians and carry a non biblical worldview. It is time as Christians that we get back to allowing the Word of God to be the source and authority on truth. In the meantime, how do we get by in these difficult times. The promise, along with a warning about these days is in the scripture below. In the middle of this passage that sounds like it was written directly to 2015 American is a promise -- "but I am with you in spirit," and then later in verse 6 "walk in Him". Then comes the ultimate promise is verse 15, "He triumphed over them by Him."...
Promises of God: For I Know the Plans I Have for You

Jeremiah 29:11-14 11 For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the Lord ’s declaration — “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 You will call to Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you” — this is the Lord ’s declaration — “and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and places where I banished you” — this is the Lord ’s declaration. “I will restore you to the place I deported you from.” Christians love to pray Jeremiah 29:11 but keep reading. Verses 11 and 12 are the promise, but verse 13 is the condition, if you will seek ME and search for ME with all your heart! Verse 14 then is the if/then statement, there will be restoration!! In Christ Love, Coach J

The AFCA talk by Gary Patterson. Gary is very sharp and has done a very good job at TCU. The one part of the notes that I think is especially true is the part of the notes about making sure that when you take a job that you make sure you are the right fit for the school. http://lifeafterfootballblog.com/2015-afca-convention-notes-gary-patterson/#more-2090

The Promises of God

My Pastor has been focusing on two areas lately. 1. The importance of prayer and 2. The promises of God. And really they go hand in hand in the sense that I believe it is important that we pray the promises of God. There is power in going before your heavenly Father and saying, God you said you would do this if I did this. In America we like to forget the if part. We just want God to give without us doing our part. I really believe in 2015 God is really looking to bless His people. Emphasis being on HIS people. Those who truly follow him. Those who are obedient to His commands. Those who worship Him in spirit and in truth. I really want to be one of those people, but if I am honest, and before God it is really the only option. I am often not one of those people. I am selfish, self centered, and put other things before Him. That is stupid and I working on really making Him God. One of the th...

Teachings on the Prayer of Jabez

I used to pray the prayer of Jabez on a daily basis. In my wife's prayer time today she felt like that God was tell us in this time of uncertainty about our future that we needed to start praying the prayer of Jabez again. The prayer of Jabez can be found in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 and here it is in the NKJV. 9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested. Below is a great teaching on the prayer of Jabez by Jentezen Franklin. This teaching is awesome and if you have never heard, do yourself a favor, grab a notepad and spend 30 minutes growing spiritually.

Rick Darlington at Apoka is running a very powerful form of the Single Wing and winning at a high level in Florida. It is very similar to the offense that Tim Murphy is running out of the Shotgun Double Wing out at Clayton Valley. Here is a script I have put together. We have used part of at Obion the last couple of years. Apoka Style Offense Play Script

In my years at Sikeston we were blessed to have some great football teams. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there as Offensive Coordinator. We ran basically seven schemes in the run game: Inside Zone Outside Zone Power Counter Fly Trap Counter In the passing game we were play action, quick game, and screen driven. Everything we ran was series based with screens attached to the runs and play actions off all of base series. The next few weeks, I plan on posting several videos and playbook post on our offense at Sikeston.

The Killer of the Chatterbox

First, thanks for Pastor Furtick for being obedient and writing his book Crash the Chatterbox. I don't necessarily have any New Years Resolutions, though one of the things I would like to do in 2015 is read more. I have heard it said that leaders read. I also think that leaders read the thoughts of successful people. Hence, I am reading Crash the Chatterbox by Pastor Furtick. I am also reading it because the uncertainties in my life have fed the chatterbox. If you are new to the blog and have not read some of my other post on the chatterbox, you may be asking what the heck is a chatterbox. The chatterbox is all the voices that keep running through our head as we do this thing called life. Of course some of the things in the chatterbox are positive and good thoughts but too many of the thoughts we have are negative and counterproductive. Many of the thoughts are also fears, anxiety, and flat out lies, which is unbiblical and opposite...
How Are You Using Your Talents

How Are You Using Your Talents First of all Happy New Years. I pray and hope that you have a wonderful 2015. As I was reading Crash the Chatterbox this morning, Pastor Furtick used the parable of the talents to make a point. The book is about deal with the "chatterbox" or all those inner voices which are constantly bombarding you. The reason why Pastor Furtick uses this parable is at the end the person who hid his talents and did nothing with them said he did so because he was afraid! The point being in order to use your talents you often have to overcome your fears. As I read this, I thought how appropriate for a New Years Day post. Of course this is the time of year when everyone stops to reflect, make news years resolutions, and set goals. So I will leave you this scripture and this questions to ponder: The Parable of the Talents 14 “For it is just like a man going on a journey. He called his own slaves and turn...
