Great Diamond Formation Video by Coach McPherson

Run Access Throws

Here is a great video on a way to keep yourself out of bad play calls and keep receivers involved in the game.  If it is up to me in 2015, I plan on using this concept with the run game.

Just because it is bad, does not mean God is not in it

God will use your circumstances to push you past people to get to Him.  That which you do not understand could be God redirecting your path to fulfill His purpose and your destiny.  Praise God, at all times, the good, the bad, and the ugly and especially when it does not make sense. God knows how and when to bless you.  He also knows which doors are to be closed and which doors are to be open.  You don't got to see everything and understand how it is going to work out.  Just trust God and go where he takes you and when he takes you.

Do Not Rely on Your Own Understanding...

Proverbs 3:1-12 HCSB   Trust the Lord   1 My son, don’t forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commands; 2 for they will bring you many days, a full life, and well-being. 3 Never let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Tie them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; 6 think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths. 7 Don’t consider yourself to be wise; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. 8 This will be healing for your body and strengthening for your bones. 9 Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest; 10 then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine. 11 Do not despise the Lord ’s instruction, my son, and do not loathe His disciplin

Crash the Chatterbox, Christmas Version

First and foremost, Merry Christmas to all who read the blog.  It is going to be an especially good Christmas in the Jackson residence this year as it looks like that today, tomorrow, or whenever he gets good and ready, Karson my first grand baby will be born.  So how appropriate on Christmas Eve that we talk about the well known mother from a couple of thousand years back, Mary mother of Jesus.  From reading today, Pastor Furtick makes this quote:  "God's favor is not just a force to make our lives more convenient.  It is a super natural reality that enables us to fulfill God's purpose."  When the Angel of the Lord visited Mary, Luke 1:28 says that he said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored.  The Lord is with you".  Now wouldn't it be nice to hear an Angel of the Lord tell us we are favored and that the Lord was with us, but in verse 29, Mary tells the Angel she was afraid.  Looking back and knowing the rest of the story, she had good reason, the

2014 Obion County Central Double Wing Playbook

The last two seasons, I have returned to the Double Wing at Obion County Central.  I am not sure what is next for Coach J, but I will most likely not be running the Double Wing no matter what happens.  I will defend the Double Wing and all my Double Wing buddies out there before I move on.  It is a great offense.  It is not the reason for the lack of success on offense at Obion County Central.  The coaches who run it are great group of guys willing to share what they know and almost all of them are top notch human beings.  If you are going to run it, my one suggestion would be to run it from the gun.  If you would like to speak with me about the offense, please feel free to contact me. By the way, this does cost on Scribd, if you are reader of the blog and contact me, I can send it to you free as a PDF.  2014 Playbook Obion County Central Double Wing Playbook

Crash the Chatterbox Part II

As I was reading Pastor Furtick's book today, this quote from the book of what God spoke to him, resonated in my spirit.  Maybe it will minister to you in much the same way.  "You're spending too much energy assessing other peoples assessments of you.  I want you to reinvest that energy into aligning your life with My acceptance of you" I hate to admit this, but my attitude the last month has been horrible.  I have acted like a spoiled little brat at times and allowed my tongue to run rampant.  Frustration happens when your expectations do not match up with reality.  I know who I am in Christ.  I know that I am called.  I know that I have a purpose.  I know the passions God has birthed inside of me.  The problem becomes when I, not God, start to create expectations, timetables, and entitlements of what I am entitled to.  I am not in charge of where God has placed me, He is.  I am not in charge of if or when I get promoted, He is.  I am not in charge of the timing

On the Field Video of the Uptempo Drill

Uptempo Drill By Coach McPherson

Packaging Plays

Here is another Coach McPherson video.  This one is on packaging plays.  I agree with Coach McPherson at the beginning of the video we he talks about check with me schemes.  Anyway, I think this is something regardless of your offensive philosophy that you can incorporate into what you are doing, whether you are a fast tempo team or not.  The past two years here at Obion, we have made a decision above my pay grade to huddle up.  It is one of my biggest regrets.  I am not a believer in going really fast all the time, but I think that going no huddle and practicing with Tempo is the best thing you can do for your program, because it creates a mentality.  And the bottom line is, if you are bad on defense, then you are bad on defense whether you huddle or not and you will lose.  Offense is fun, but defense wins championships.

Crash The Chatterbox

I am currently reading Crash the Chatterbox by Steven Furtick.  Steven is the Pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC.  I have visited Elevation and enjoy the ministry of Pastor Furtick.  You can check out Elevation Church @ http://elevationchurch.org/.  I plan on posting thoughts from the book over the next couple of weeks. All Things Work Together .....

All Things Work Together............... If you are like me, you like to have control.  You like to have things orderly.  You like to know "what's next".  And you hate uncertainty.  And when there is uncertainty, your mind runs constantly with different possibilities, both good and bad of what might be next.  One verse that has ministered to me lately is this well know verse:   Romans 8:28 KJV And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 AMP We are assured and know that (God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. 3 Questions regarding this passage What are all things? the things that are good and make us happy the things that we understand and can figure out on our own are the bad things all things too? are t

Full Game Arkansas State (Malzhan) vs Oregon

I think that it is hard to argue that Chip Kelly and Gus Malzahn have had a great impact on the college football.  Of course Chip has moved on the NFL where he is also having success and Gus is still trying to score points in the tough SEC West.  Here is an interesting match up, Gus's first game at ASU visiting the post-Chip Kelly era Ducks. Of course the Ducks has much more talent and the score is lopsided, but this is an interesting look at some of the base offense from both systems.

Do you want to be a man of Character, then you need to suffer a little bit!

Paul tells us in Romans 5:3-4, "we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; character, hope".  It is a four step process that brings one out on the other end purified, whole, alive, and a contributing member of the body of Christ.

Possible Move for 2015

Faithful Readers, First I would like to thank everyone who reads my blog.  I plan on taking some time over the next several weeks and doing some writing on my blog.  Cleaning it up and getting back the reason for my blog which goes much deeper than football.  The reason for this post is that I am currently looking to relocate.  I have coached the last 3 seasons as the Offensive Coordinator here at Obion County Central High School in northwest Tennessee.  It is a great place to teach, but an extremely tough place to coach.  We recently had a coaching change and while there is a possible opportunity to stay, I am exploring my options.  I would like to be a Head Football Coach, but I am open to an Offensive Coordinator position in the right situation.  I think my blog speaks for itself in terms of my offensive philosophy.  I would like to think that it speaks for itself in terms of my character.  If you have an open position, I would love to talk to you. Here is my Resume : Mark A
