Auburn vs Oregon Thoughts

One of my more popular post was my preview of Auburn vs Oregon. The last couple of days, several people have asked me what I thought about the game. So I thought I would gather my thoughts and put them down on paper. Here is what I thought:

1. It is a shame these teams had to have such a long layoff. Both teams started slow and played sloppy at times. If they didn't have the layoff, both offenses would have been much more efficient.

2. It was a joy to watch football played at that pace. These two teams probably play faster than anyone else in the country. What it means, more plays, it is almost like watching bonus football.

3. No matter what tempo the game is played at, this game was won where all football games are won. Oregon could not block Auburn. Auburn won this game up front.

4. The SEC is the best conference in the country. The PAC 10 is a finesse league.

5. Cam Newton and Gene Chizik both gave God the glory. If you have watched Auburn all year, you know they could of lost at least 4 games. Clemson, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Alabama all had the Tigers beat, but their faith in their ability, each other, and apparently God pulled them through. I believe they were a team of destiny.

6. The Oregon program philosophy and design is ahead of the rest of the country. They are cutting edge in what and how they do. There will be a lot of programs copying their success.

7. Gus Malzahn thinks outside the box and is a great play caller.

8. Cam Newton can play in the NFL. It is a shame that his dad left a cloud over him for the rest of his career.

9. Both of these teams run the football first.

I recorded the game and I will be breaking down this off season. We already a have a special set we borrowed from Auburn. Our offense in a lot of ways is like Oregon's. We are no huddle, but I would like to speed our pace up this upcoming year, but to do so we have to move the chains.

These are my thoughts. Feel free to leave a comment.

God Bless,

Coach J
